Fallen Firefighters

This display appeared spontaneously at a West Hartford fire station the morning after Osama bin Laden was killed.  Each flag represents a firefighter killed during the destruction of the World Trade Center.

so interesting to go from gardens of tulips to gardens of flags.

Very interesting. I like Brattcat's phrase, "gardens of flags."

Re your comment about Concord! I know where it all happened. I taught American history! But some dumb dumbs don't and I was referring to the person you mentioned! Heh, heh!

Re the "beauty": Guess you'll just have to take my word for it ... ;-)

This is a moving tribute and demonstrates the bravery and sacrifice of first responders. It is a fitting epilogue to the tulips.

Very evocative memorial - and somehow all the more so after the tulips of the day before. Firefighters tend to be unsung heroes. We've hundreds out battling wildfires all over the country at the moment.

I like the 'spontaneous' here. I just shudder when I think back on it. This is such a wonderful gesture.
