Hartford from Above

This is the City of Hartford as seen from the airplane from which I took yesterday's photos.  We are looking northwest.  The high rise buildings are Hartford's downtown.  The Connecticut River is snaking its way past the city.

The Charter Oak Bridge is the southernmost bridge, in the foreground, connecting US Route 91 northbound with US Route 84 eastbound.  Travelers between New York and Boston would usually use this bridge to by-pass the city's traffic.

The middle bridge is the Founders Bridge.  It brings commuters living east of the Connecticut River into downtown Hartford in the morning and back home in the afternoon.

The northernmost bridge is the Bulkeley Bridge, which carries US Route 84 through the city.

Most of this area doesn't flood in the spring, although there is a riverfront park on the Hartford side that was designed to withstand "wet feet" in the spring.  The park starts south of the Founders Bridge and runs north of the Bulkeley Bridge

Impressive! I'm not used to seeing such a big river frozen over.

This is a great photo and description.

Looks like no one is out due to extreme cold. You had the right idea -- warm and high above the city. Really nice perspective showing the bridges and the curve of the rive.

This picture is breathtaking, imagine a frozen river is something very special for me!
Beautiful bridge in this picture and those modern buildings are wonderful!

Still looks very cold. And I hear your part of the country is in for another cold blast. Whatever happened to global warming? j/k :)

I have seen Hartford from above like this in the winter and it is a beautiful sight. I love the fields you see as you get close to the airport with pristine snow.

Great view of Down-town.

Like many large cities with a river running through or close-by, yours has a number of bridges. Your photo gives a good panoramic view of the area.

Jack, I love the aerial shot. Hartford has a beautiful skyline and it looks excellent from up there. The snow makes it all the more impressive.

Gosh for a minute I thought it was "my" I84, the one I drive from La Grande to Portland! I just googled it though but nope, this one ends in Pennsylvania.

I really like how downtown is human size. And I love all the white and the meandering river.

And lastly thank you for your lovely comment today!

Very nice, and I appreciate your commentary. It makes the photo come "alive." Actually, in some ways, this looks like an old-timey photo...I like it very much.

What's this golf "shame" thing? You think you should play like a pro. They live in another world! Did you see that tournament last weekend: Par 5's over 600 yards. A par 4 at 570 yards. That's insane!

I did good yesterday...don't have a clue what happened. I'd been working on my grip and it helped I think: Front 9 - 38; back 9 - 42. Best round of the year. And very, very unusual!

What a neat shot, Jack! Are you a private pilot?

Stop your foolishness! Caddy, my ...! I could just as well shoot 95 tomorrow! :-) So, don't think you can get out of it so easily...we've got a game, my friend; soon as you come this way!

You'll love the Stone Creek course. Guaranteed!

There is a lot of white around and we are not used to frozen river of that size: amazing!
